Mortal Shell II Beginner Guide

Your first priorities are simple: cleanse useful Beacons, uncover each area's map, find a Shell and weapon combination you understand, and spend early resources instead of carrying them into avoidable deaths.

Learn the new combat rules first

Mortal Shell II removes the stamina restriction from combat, but that does not make attacking without a plan safe. Use short strings until you understand an enemy's response, then build posture damage and take the critical opening after a break. Sidearms are part of the core combat system, not an emergency-only tool.

Test defensive options deliberately. A Seal changes the defensive action available to the Harbinger, while a Shell provides its own strengths and abilities. Do not confuse a newly equipped Seal with a newly acquired Shell.

Cleanse Beacons when the option appears

Resting restores resources, but a Beacon that can be cleansed offers more. Cleansing advances the Harbinger's Ova objective and can award resources and Glimpse. Some Beacons are travel checkpoints without a dungeon underneath, so inspect the prompt rather than assuming every Beacon works identically.

Reveal the map before clearing every side path

In a greyed-out region, look for crow icons. Reaching them reveals the area's map and makes later exploration much easier. Use manual map markers for discoveries you want to revisit.

Dungeon icons are not automatically marked complete. After you have checked a dungeon for items and cleared its challenge, mark it manually on the map so you do not repeat it by mistake.

Spend Gold and Glimpse with a purpose

Marrow Keep provides early services and information. Gold can purchase useful directions toward equipment, while Glimpse can help reveal Shell locations. Spending these resources on a route to a real upgrade is usually more useful than hoarding them without a plan.

Find Tiel after Marrow Keep

The Open Beta explicitly supports finding Tiel, the Acolyte. His remains are in the early open world near Mushroom Village. If the prologue leaves you without Harros, continue to Marrow Keep and follow the Shell information rather than assuming your save is broken.

Keep a short exploration loop

Use this repeatable order in a new area:

  1. Activate the nearest Beacon.
  2. Find the crow map icon.
  3. Check obvious side paths and dungeon entrances.
  4. Return to upgrade or spend resources before the next major encounter.
  5. Mark completed dungeons on the map.
